When illness strikes, we have been very conditioned to run to doctors or grab the quickest medication to dull our symptoms. The problem with that, besides wasting hours in walk-in clinics to end up taking toxic meds that actually hinder our healing, is the fact that we are not realizing that all of our suffering can be alleviated with the simplest HEALTHY natural remedies right from our home! There are things everyone needs to have on hand in their homes for when colds and infections leave us feeling like we've been hit by a Mack truck! The REAL pharmacy, I call it. A list of essentials that will help alleviate your symptoms while they are healing you.
Now it goes without saying that along with the remedies listed below, we must help our immune systems overall to give our bodies the best fighting chance when healing. Eating a wholesome diet, making fresh vegetable juices, bone/vegetable broths and warm liquids, eliminating toxic lifestyle factors, thinking positively and relaxing and minimizing stress, all help cut our healing time in half! When we get sick, it's our body's way of communicating to us that it is suffering health-wise. The very last thing you want to do is cover up those symptoms with pharmaceuticals that temporarily shut down your immune response making you temporarily feel better, when in fact you are not better!
Addressing the root is always key, and giving your body natural immune support is what does that. What your body needs is nutrition, hydration, rest, and peace. The body will heal itself with all the right tools. The more you heal yourself naturally each time you are unwell, the more you are loading your body with the health it actually needs to remain well for longer. You will see a decrease in the frequency you get sick, and the duration of your illness when you do get sick.
#1: COCONUT OIL

Besides being the greatest moisturizer and lubricant, this oil is powerfully healing in more ways than one! Whether consuming it internally, using it as a carrier oil for homemade rubs with essential oils, or for oil-pulling to heal cavities and oral issues, coconut oil heals anything from skin rashes, burns and cavities, to parasites, digestive issues, yeast overgrowth, vaginal infections and bacterial/fungal infections.
#2: GARLIC

Again, powerfully antibacterial and antifungal. Garlic does wonders for our bodies when ill. Allicin, the main healing compound in garlic, boosts the immune system and helps fight against pathogens in the body. When dealing with any respiratory/circulatory/inflammatory issues, or viral/bacterial/fungal infections, eating raw garlic is a must.
#3: LEMON

Lemons are so incredibly cleansing. Drinking lots of lemon water, fresh lemon tea and squeezing lemon all over your foods, does wonders for hydrating your body, balancing PH and supporting the liver to cleanse out toxins. Though acidic outside the body, lemon leaves behind an alkaline ash in the body. This is essential for supporting immunity and neutralizing harmful acids. A simple little fruit that is so powerfully healing when our bodies are not functioning up to par!
#4: GINGER ROOT

Known for its anti-inflammatory properties and one of the greatest digestive aids, ginger really does do wonders when you are sick! Gingerol, the main compound in ginger, is great for relieving sore throats, improving digestion, relieving digestive upset, nausea and headaches, lowering blood pressure, stabilizing blood sugar, reducing LDL cholesterol, reducing inflammation and arthritic conditions, and is a great antibacterial! Cutting some slices and steeping them as a tea with lemon, juicing a chunk or eating it raw, consuming the extract, and using ginger oil internally or on skin topically, are all great ways to use this wonderfully healing root.
#5: APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

ACV is among the best remedies to have in your home! Balancing PH, encouraging healthy gut microbiota, having anti-fungal and anti-viral properties, balancing blood sugar and restoring proper hydrochloric acid levels, are all huge benefits from ACV. The result is a healthier gut, better nutrient assimilation and nourishment, and a healthier you! Good riddance to yeast, acne, rashes, digestive issues, killer heartburn, weight issues, and blood sugar spikes and dips. Definitely want to have a bottle of this on hand at all times when getting some seriously unpleasant symptoms! Drinking 2 tablespoons in a tall glass of water before meals or throughout the day does wonders, as well as adding it to homemade salad dressings or fresh juices.

For oxidative stress, mood stabilizer, emotional stress, sleep aid, blood sugar levels, migraines, depression, anxiety, cognitive impairment, burns/cuts, pain reliever, pest repellent, skin/hair health-- *topically, inhalation*
-PEPPERMINT

THE WORLD'S BEST PROBIOTICS! One of the main culprits robbing people's health is systemic bacterial/yeast overgrowth. Imbalanced gut flora is almost always the major player in so many of the existing health problems we see today. Re-inoculating your intestinal tract with "good bacteria/flora" is a must, given that so much of our chemicalized world destroys it. Personally, I have found that drinking organic nut milk kefir and eating fermented foods regularly, has repaired my gut in ways supplements never have.
Sauerkraut, kimchi, pickled veggies, kefir and kombucha, are fabulous to have as staples in your everyday diet. Fermented beverages and foods repair your gut lining and heal everything from bloating, ulcerative colitis and IBS/Crohn's, to food allergies/intolerances, diarrhea/constipation, ear infections, colds, parasites/tapeworms, skin rashes/eczema/psoriasis, SIBO, acne, low immunity, insomnia, mood issues, brain fog, memory loss, confusion, depression, ADD, autism and inflammation.
#8/9: TURMERIC/CAYENNE

I am combining these two as they are very beneficial when used together. Cayenne should be 90 HU (heat units) at least for optimal benefits, and turmeric is ten fold more bioavailable when combined with a healthy fat such as coconut oil, and black pepper! Making a turmeric paste on very low heat in a pot, is the best way to consume all ingredients in one and gain maximal healing power.
Boosting metabolism, lowering blood pressure, improving cardiovascular health, relieving pain and ridding congestion, are just a few things this root and pepper can do. Even more significant is their ability to help heal serious inflammatory based illnesses such as arthritis/rheumatoid, lupus, vasculitis, IBD, pancreatitis, diabetes, heart disease and cancers. They are powerfully anti-inflammatory and nutrient dense, and should both be an absolute staple in your house at all times!
#10: MAGNESIUM

This is a master mineral! Although you always want to make sure you keep your calcium levels balanced as they work together, magnesium is a crucially beneficial mineral needed for so many important functions in the body. Regulating blood pressure, keeping bones strong, ensuring proper function of nerves, muscles and tissues, neutralizing stomach acid, and supporting digestion and proper growth development, are just a few this electrolyte is essential for.
Juicing lots of organic green vegetables and leafy greens and eating a lot of raw foods, is my favorite way to nourish my body with minerals. Natural mineral-rich foods automatically provide the right ratios for our nutritional needs. Nature really is a beautiful thing! But you can always take a quality magnesium supplement (Bisglycinate is my personal preference), as well as use a quality magnesium oil topically to up levels.
